If It Ain't Broke (Don't Fix It) [The Constitution Song]

In 1688 the Bill of Rights amid bloodshed, war and fears
Hard won, recognising people have rights has been our way for two hundred years
But then somebody talked of change, a republic is what they did say
Let's rule ourselves, and we know how to do it, and let's do it today

But politicians pass like a passing parade, and they change laws like in a penny arcade
Never knowing what the consequences will be - do they care what they leave for you and me?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, leave well enough alone
The Constitution of old time is why I still call Australia home

The Constitutional Monarchy protects us, from the Magna Carta to the Bill of Rights
A system fair, dictators never ruling, freedom in our ways, freedom in our rights
When the pilgrims sailed the seas to America, religious freedom was their aim
A republic built upon the Holy Bible, is Australia the same?

If it ain't broke. don't fix it, leave well enough alone
The Constitution of old time is why I still call Australia home

When we start changing something good to something else that we think it could be
It's never the same, sometimes it brings shame, why tamper with stability?
In years to come, who knows what's planned, what's in store for you and me
We've got enough problems on our hands, so let's just let it be

Cos what would happen to the freedoms that we know, like freedom of speech and trial by jury
Would we trade our way for a new unknown, like a ship without an anchor on a stormy sea

If it ain't broke. don't fix it, leave well enough alone
The Constitution of old time, is why I still call Australia home.

Come Tomorrow (The State of the Nation)

The farmer's losing all his land while his neighbour lends a hand
We buy our food from overseas, our country's falling on its knees
Small businesses cannot survive the governmental red beehive
The politicians wasting time on spending big it's such a crime
When there's no money in the kitty of our Burley Griffin city
And our states are rapidly losing and the accuser stands accusing

And black is white and good is bad, God's in your head so don't be sad
Don't say a word, it's safe to say "Come tomorrow I'll remember yesterday".

A one-world government they say is what we work towards today
The DSS is telling you just where to go and what to do
Some say let go of binding ties that others say are very wise
And our defense I've heard some say isn't needed any more today
Who's going to keep us in law and order when no man's land has no border?

They're changing laws, does your MP represent direct democracy
Watch what you say, racial vilification makes it hard to talk, oh the state of the nation
Police strip searching everyday, some say that everything's okay
While some in private enterprise look straight ahead with hungry eyes
And take their business overseas while the cars we drive are Japanese

Who's running what and why and how, and can we ever turn back now?
And as we go from bad to worse and there's no money in your purse
And as our freedom's slip away the sun sets on the final day
Just say "Goodbye Australia fair, did you people really care"?
And what about the next generation, do we leave them stranded at the station?
And do they care out there in O'Malley what is happening in my valley?

(This is the time of the) Sweet By and By

Come out of the dark, light a new spark, put away the fears that you hide
Fix your hopes higher with the flame of desire for the time of the sweet by and by
This is the time of the sweet by and by, coming near the curve of the bend
This is the time of the sweet by and by, we're almost at the journey's end

And new united states and new united nations are east and west to face confrontation
The government is walling you, installing you, the government is calling you and hauling you
Getting too late to wonder are we all going under?

Take heed of the warning, a new day is dawning, it is written for all to see
The time is a-coming and the drums are a-drumming, who will escape what is to be?

This is the time of the sweet by and by, everyone understand
This is the time of the sweet by and by, devil's got control of the land

Who holds the power to feed earth's starving population, in Armaggedon's hour who will head the state of nations
Wiling you, beguiling you, the devil's lore, embarking you and marking you for Holy War
Getting too late to wonder are we all going under?

This is the time of the sweet by and by, everyone understand
This is the time of the sweet by and by, devil's got control of the land

This is the time of the sweet by and by, understand everyone
This is the time of the sweet by and by, see the Age, Herald, the Sun
